Wow, wow, wow…. What to say. We have spent the last couple
of weeks in Uganda continuing our journey with Children of the Nations to visit
all of their African campuses. We have
had the extreme privilege of helping with Nurse training in the clinics. We are headed back to Sierra Leone in just a
couple of days. We are so excited to
have seen what God is doing in both Malawi and Uganda. This has truly been the trip of a lifetime.
Despite all the amazing experiences we’ve been having I can’t
help but miss everyone back home. I’ve
been thinking about everyone so much. We
truly are just guests here in Africa.
Oregon will always be our home and some days more than others I am truly
floored by how much I love my family and my home.
OK enough mushy stuff…
Here are some fun facts…
11)
I found a dead snake some of the boys in Uganda
had killed. Naturally I got my knife out
and cut it open to reveal a mouse! It
was sleeping or something. I love nature.
22)
Apparently our president has an affinity for
cooking and beer because I’ve seen “Obama bar and grill” in all three countries
(Sierra Leone, Uganda and Malawi). Local
bar patrons in Uganda were not too keen on our taking picture of the sign
outside… they started threatening to throw rocks.
33)
I think I’m becoming addicted to Football (that’s
soccer to the lay-people). Bayern is my favorite team. Don’t worry I’m not a front runner. They may have won 37 straight league matches but
I swear I chose them arbitrarily.
44)
Sweating
is great. Really I’m just saying that to
try and convince myself that it’s not completely disgusting to be glistening
with man-stink at every hour of the day.
55)
My wife is really awesome… and a total babe
a.
She will regret having me write this blog alone
and unedited.
66)
There are a lot of sleepy dogs along the highway
here…. What’s up with that? Some of them
even sleep in the middle of the road.
77)
The food in Africa is amazing. One thing we’ve discussed is whether we
really love it as much as we think we do or is it more the “camping effect.” You all know what I’m talking about. You’re out camping and you make dinner and
think “this is the best meal I’ve ever eaten” but in reality it’s just canned
chili and hot dogs.
88)
Being in Africa is similar to camping in the
northwest except that it’s not cold… and there’s no camp host… and there are
fewer dorky white people… and a couple of other differences.
99)
Hyenas are REALLY huge and pretty scary. I don’t
want one.
Wow. Whoever made it this far I’m sorry. You will never get those 4 minutes of your life
back. But do remember that we love you and we’re praying for you daily.
hyenas are big huh?? bummer about people being mad about a photo....CMON BROTHERS!!
